Everything you need to know about DocRithm.
DocRithm is a desktop application that uses artificial intelligence to automatically process your documents — extracting key information and renaming files intelligently. It supports 50+ document types including passports, invoices, driver licenses, utility bills, contracts, and more.
You select files or folders in the app (or right-click in Finder/Explorer). DocRithm AI sends the document content to your chosen AI provider (cloud AI or a local Ollama model), which identifies the document type, extracts relevant fields (names, dates, amounts, etc.), and the app renames your files based on configurable naming templates.
Yes! We offer a lifetime free plan. Every account receives 25 free document processing credits per month (meaning you can process 25 files per month for free), automatically renewed. No credit card required to sign up. If you need more, you can purchase additional credit packs starting at $9.99 for 100 credits.
DocRithm supports 50+ document types out of the box, including: passports, driver licenses, national ID cards, utility bills, bank statements, invoices, receipts, contracts, tax forms, medical records, insurance documents, and more. You can also define custom document types with your own extraction fields and naming templates.
DocRithm handles PDF documents and common image formats (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, WebP). Scanned documents and photos of documents work great — the AI can read text from images with high accuracy.
DocRithm supports multiple cloud AI providers for cloud-based processing and local models via Ollama for offline processing. You can switch between providers in the settings to find the best results for your specific document types.
Yes. DocRithm runs entirely on your local machine. Your original files never leave your computer — only the extracted text content is sent to the AI provider for processing. API keys are stored securely in your OS keychain (macOS Keychain / Windows Credential Manager), not in plain text.
DocRithm is available for macOS (12.0 Monterey or later, both Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows (10 or later, 64-bit). The app features a native GUI, a command-line interface, and macOS Finder right-click integration.
Absolutely. You can select entire folders for batch processing. The app shows real-time progress with a log viewer, and each file consumes one credit. You can also use the CLI mode for scripted batch operations.
Yes. DocRithm uses TOML-based naming templates that you can customize per document type. For example, you could set invoices to be renamed as "Invoice — [Company] — [Amount] — [Date].pdf" and passports as "Passport — [Full Name] — [Expiry].pdf". A live preview shows the result before processing.
After creating a free account on our website, you can generate API keys from the dashboard. Paste the key into the DocRithm desktop app settings. Each API key tracks your usage and credit balance. You can create multiple keys and revoke them at any time.
No. Purchased credit packs never expire — use them whenever you need. Only the 25 free monthly credits reset each month. Your purchased credits are always used after your free monthly allocation is depleted.
Yes. Enable Review Mode in Settings. DocRithm shows a table of all proposed changes — edit individual names, deselect files, and approve in bulk. Nothing is renamed until you confirm.
Yes. The History page shows every document DocRithm has ever processed, stored in a local SQLite database on your machine. Search by keyword, filter by date or status, view extracted fields and AI summaries, and export everything as CSV (includes original filename, new filename, AI summary, and all extracted fields).
Yes — Enterprise mode lets you point DocRithm at any custom LLM endpoint (your org's private model). Configure the server URL and authentication in Settings. Ideal for air-gapped environments or compliance requirements.
